The aim of this week’s newsletter is to remind us to Be Love.
FYI – Making A Difference
Divine Sounds
How can you not feel your true nature as you listen to this. It is impossible. It brings the Peace, the Love and all that is good inside us to the surface. I cried. The divine sounds of some of the students at the St Joseph’s Maori Girls’ College express the true meaning of Christmas. Just a few minutes of listening reminds us what Christmas is all about. Just Do It!
You never know just what can happen when you start something. If you are inspired follow that inspiration. Here’s a great example of the ripple effect of just such an endeavour.
“It kind of started by mistake…I was walking the neighborhood and at the end of the street people had started dumping garbage in this empty lot. That lot had been empty since I was in high school, and I decided that when it got warm, I was gonna start cleaning it up. I decided that if I cleaned it up, they would just dump on it again, so I decided to make it pretty and put in some roses and plants and stuff. It was myself, my mother, and some other kids, and we cleaned it all up and put in a few rows. I started talking to people in the neighborhood and a lot of them said it would be great for them to be able to come out and pick food because they were struggling to pay for food and their medications and stuff, so I put in a few rows of vegetables. Another women came out and said that she had some foster boys and she wanted to send them out to help in the garden because they needed some structure in their lives. She told me to treat them as if they were my own. They must have had fun because they started bringing their friends and their cousins. I wanted to do something for them at the end of the year, so I gave them backpacks and they were able to get people from the community to donate school supplies to fill their backpacks.”

Our Guest tonight…
Walter Mason
Om Mani Padme Hum & the Dragon Kingdom of Bhutan
Walter has recently returned from the remote and mysterious Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. In this tiny Buddhist nation almost everyone is devoted to the practise of the mantra of “Om Mani Padme Hum,” and believe it brings them good health, luck, enlightenment and peace of mind.
In this talk Walter will discuss the practise and meaning of this mantra, and how we can incorporate it into our own lives. We will also explore the crazy wisdom of their beloved sage Drukpa Kunley, devotion to the Medicine Buddha and some of the other fascinating elements of the spiritual lives of the Bhutanese.
Walter Mason is a creativity teacher, writer, blogger and tour leader.
His first book, “Destination Saigon” was named one of the ten best travel books of 2010 by the Sydney Morning Herald. Walter’s latest book, “Destination Cambodia,” was released to critical acclaim in 2013, both books published by Allen & Unwin.
Walter runs the Universal Heart Book Club with Stephanie Dowrick, a book blog that concentrates on matters of the spirit.
He also appears regularly on radio and podcasts, including ABC Radio 702, The Conversation Arena and Radio Out There. He also writes and reviews for New Dawn, Eremos and Good Reading Magazine.
Walter has studied Buddhism for the past 24 years, and has spent periods of study and retreat at monasteries in Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

In and Around the Academy
With Rosemary Butterworth
What a wonderful community the Academy has become. Last night brought people that I haven’t seen for ages, some new people and of course our regulars. It was a huge turnout. I wish we had of taken some photos of all those candles we put into the centre wishing all beings everywhere Peace and Love. I cannot remember ever seeing so many candles alight – it looked very beautiful.
Jo Van der Meer and Ellie led the singing beginning with Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu. It is an uplifting, centering chant. For your information it might be nice to put the meaning of the words below.
lokah – location, all realms existing now
samastah – all beings sharing that location
sukhino – to be centered in happiness and joy, free from suffering
bhav – the Divine state of unified existence
antu – may it be so, it must be so (like ‘amen’, this ending transforms this mantra into a powerful pedge as we often strive for this goal).
It is so easy to pronounce and sing – maybe we should sing it at the beginning of each Monday night next year – what do you think?
Although the Monday nights are in recess, there will be a lot happening behind the scenes in January, so keep in touch and check out the website for any changes (thank you Terri). Do make a note in your diary for 1st February as we have Nancy Valentine Smith , opening the Academy evenings for 2016 as promised.
There will be a change in entry price to the meetings next year. It has been many years since we have updated them. Concessions: $10 (stay the same) Eventbrite (internet) $15 At door: $20. All of our events will be posted in our weekly Bulletin, on Facebook, Meetup, our Website and Eventbrite. So stay in touch, mark your calenders and share with your friends! We will look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.
We wish to thank Gaye Willox who lives in Tasmania, for her lovely, encouraging comments.

Thought Of The Week

Affirmation – say daily, feel it, believe it…

HEALTH TIP – Emergency pack
Well, it is that time of the year again. The time that can cause so much stress and yet what we truly want is to be in a state of Love, Peace and Joy.
How do we achieve that? Remember your tools! They are different for everybody. We all have them.
Mantras such as Ho’oponopono – “I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I Love You.”
Sprays and Essences such as Australian Bushflower Emergency Essence or Soul Colour Pink
Meditation/breathing. You mightn’t have an opportunity or the space to sit and meditate for an hour. Any amount of time is good. Focus on a flower for three minutes, watch and breathe through the Peace and Love clip in FYI at the top of the Bulletin. Go back through other Bulletins (they are all on the website) and find you favourite most uplifting clip.
Take a walk in nature.
Play restful or joyful music.
These are but suggestions. Make a list of your choices and when you are feeling a bit desperate, check the list. May you find Peace, Peace, and Peace.
