IMPORTANT NEWS AT THE ACADEMY

With the retirement of Rosemary, John & Peggy, things will be different moving forward and we would love your  input on what that will be.  We will be holding a meeting at 7.30 Mon 28 Aug in the Melody Room at Mosman Art Gallery, dedicated to discussing options on the future activities and form of Academy of light Inc.
We are fortunate that some people with great experience in running their own online spiritual communities have expressed interest in partnering with AOL and will be joining us that night:

Everyone is welcome to attend, but any voting that may subsequently take place will require voters to register as Members of AOL Inc.  Some background on the AOL Inc. association and membership below.
Rosemary and John Butterworth founded the The Southern Cross Academy of Light, and for many years ran it as their own business. Several years ago, to facilitate a transition to an organization that could grow without their involvement, the Academy of Light Inc. (AOL Inc) was formed. This is a not-for-profit association registered with NSW Fair Trading, similar to other community clubs, like a sports club. As a registered association it has adopted the NSW Fair Trading Model Constitution. This requires that changes to the running of the organization be voted on by Members. In the past this was done by a small group of Members, but now it is appropriate that this be increased. Being a Member does not entail any responsibility other than recording you as a Member with voting rights. However, we do hope that some Members will be more actively involved in the Committee that runs the affairs of AOL Inc.

Note:  Why not have a think tank with whiteboard and suggestions such as a quarterly sound night, ceremonies held for full moon and astrological events written down and make a temporary calendar and you will easily see how often you can meet…….Rosemary

Rosemary’s Podcast  (34 minutes long)
I was given a wonderful opportunity by Kate Gyngell to do a podcast.  Kate asked me to talk about the chapters of my life and my book.  Although I didn’t get to speak about meeting Archangel Michael in the Rainforest in Hana, Mauii, or starting the Academy some 23 years ago, and what that meant to me (I suppose I would have needed another hour to cover all that), I really enjoyed making the podcast and hopefully passing on some wisdoms that I have learnt along the way. But time brings change and with it the tasks and needs.   It is called moving forward.  And so it is going to be up to you to decide what the Academy morphs into now. Earth Treasure Vase in the Bungle Bungles by Louise Gilmore  http://earthtreasurevase.org

Rosemary opened with a meditation that had a familiar outline, but with its own special energy, that for me was “stillness”.
Louise began by introducing the term “sacred activism”, where a group’s shared spiritual intent is put into action. Her story was how the practice of  the group http://earthtreasurevase.org was gifted into sacred native land near the Bungle Bungles in northern WA.
Inspired by an ancient Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Earth Treasure Vase Global Healing Project brings healing and protection to the Earth by filling consecrated clay vessels with prayers and offerings, and ceremonially burying them in the Earth in collaboration with indigenous elders, young activists and grassroots leaders in places where healing and protection are most needed around the planet.
The physical remoteness of the site reflected the social and economic remoteness of a people that seemed to have been forgotten by the wealth of the corporations that had taken over their land. Just as there were physical challenges in crossing the terrain, there were initially cultural challenges in the gulf between city folk and the people of the land. But the common goal of caring for the land overcame them and rewarded them with insights and experiences that could not have been experienced otherwise.
The vase with its gifts was placed deep in a cave, high on a cliff, with a ceremony combining Tibetan bells and chants with native yidaki /didgeridoo at the solstice. Nature responded to acknowledge the gift with many signs ;
* brolgas not seen before appeared at sunset
* a bright multi coloured light appeared over the cliff and stayed there during the night
* smaller lights appeared which the Elders explained were the “wild spirits”
* a mob of dingos came thru and howled at The Pleaides just before sunrise
The Spirit of the people is broken when they are separated from The Land and alcohol and social problems take hold. But returning to sit on The Land and remembering the Old Ways is healing. I reminded me of a documentary where troubled youths were taken into the bush to be taught the Old Ways. They hated it at first and desperately wanted to get away, but after a couple of weeks a change took place and they returned different people, much more settled.
We can all make a start to contribute to the healing of The Land and its first people, but taking the time to offer our love and practical assistance. Lets start looking for ways we can give back rather than receive.
